This overnight weekend retreat is suitable for beginners who are new to the silent retreat experience, as well as for seasoned practitioners, who will have an opportunity to deepen their practice. Held in a nurturing and containing atmosphere of contemplative silence, we will explore the paradox that for spiritual and psychological freedom, we need to develop a secure sense of self based on the true nature of reality, not on illusion and projection.
Through the practice of meditation and the wisdom of Buddhist psychology, we will discover that when we feel contained and grounded, it is possible to let go of our habitual and addictive patterns of thinking and behaviour. The silent space of the retreat allows us to experience this containment, which is a prerequisite for any process of healing and transformation. Teachings will include an understanding of the construction of the self, its transpersonal nature and the emptiness of all phenomena.
In addition to guided sitting, walking and reclining meditations, there will be sessions of qigong movement meditation, as well as optional yoga to enhance the integration of body, heart and mind.
The retreat will include time for restorative, silent walks, swims and short, individual sessions with Sue.
Please note: This retreat can also be attended as part of a 3-week Open the Heart and Still the Mind Course, being offered in November. Please see Courses for full details or email sue.stillmind@gmail.com.
