***WARMING WINTER SPECIAL***
This 2-night silent Open the Heart and Still the Mind retreat will deepen our understanding of compassionate awareness, drawing on the wisdom of Buddhist psychology and the inspiration provided by the bodhisattva of compassion, Kuan Yin (Avalokitesvara in Sanskrit), who Contemplates the Sounds of the World at Ease.
Wisdom says I am Nothing,
Compassion says I am Everything.
Between these two banks
the life of the Awakened one flows
~ Nisargadatta
In a contained and nurturing atmosphere of Noble Silence, we will explore this paradox of being “Nothing and Everything” and will cultivate ways to awaken compassion towards ourselves and others. Much of our suffering emerges from our self-critical and judgmental relationship with ourselves, which is often based on an illusion of perfectionism. It is only when we learn to embrace our humanness with kindness and compassion, in the way a good-enough ‘mother’ embraces her child, that healing and transformation can occur. The discovery that we can develop an internalised archetypal good-enough mother is both empowering and comforting.
This retreat includes guided sitting, walking, standing and reclining meditations, daily sessions of Qigong (Chi Kung) movement meditation, in addition to daily yoga, to enhance the integration of body, heart and mind. There will also be short individual sessions with Sue and optional aromatherapy massages, as well as time for restorative rest and silent walks in the beautiful surroundings of the Stellenbosch and Helderberg mountain ranges, amidst fynbos and vineyards. Delicious vegetarian/vegan food will be savoured in silence.
