This dana/donation-based online Evening Retreat is an opportunity to honour and remember Thich Nhat Hanh (affectionately known as Thay), Vietnamese Zen Master and much-loved teacher, poet and peace activist, who died at the age of 95 on 22 January 2022 . His wonderful teachings have touched the hearts of so many of us over the decades. It is also a fundraiser for the Buddhist Retreat Centre (BRC) in Ixopo, Kwa-Zulu Natal and for their staff, who were affected in December by Covid - related cancellations. As we embrace the truth of our inter-connectedness or "interbeing" as Thay called it, we remember that we are not alone, that we are part of nature and that we can find solace with sangha in silence, wherever we are. Through our shared, compassionate presence and open-hearted generosity, we will offer our gratitude to Thich Nhat Hanh and will follow a suggested format from Thay's International Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism, with an inclusion of qigong, to honour our embodied experience and our connection to nature, both so central in Thich Nhat Hanh's teachings.

All dana will be sent directly to the BRC as an expression of our gratitude to the centre and its dedicated staff, who support this beautiful, sacred space, where we can continue keeping our appreciation of Thay alive through engaging with all aspects of living and dying with mindfulness and compassion, for the inner peace of ourselves, each other and this world.
