RETREAT: Deepening the Compassionate Heart

This long-weekend Winter Compassion Retreat is held in ennobling silence at the beautiful and nurturing venue of Mont Fleur, nestled in the mountains near Stellenbosch. We will explore and cultivate ways to deepen the compassionate heart, so that we can create a safe and gentle home within, an inner refuge which we can draw on during times of turmoil and uncertainty. This allows us to discover the meaning of true self-care and the deep nourishment of practicing in silence with others in a very contained, transformative space of psychological and spiritual healing. Beginners as well as experienced practitioners are welcome.

The wisdom teachings and practices inspired by Buddhist psychology and particularly the first two divine abodes of loving-kindness (metta) and compassion (karuna), will help heal the fragmentation, disconnection, fear and despair which have resulted from a long history of self-abandonment and deeply entrenched patterns of searching outwardly for happiness and inner peace.

This retreat includes teachings, guided meditations in all postures and a short, individual session during the weekend. The ancient practice of qigong movement meditation, as well as an optional yoga/mindful movement class and 60 min aromatherapy massages, will enhance our embodied experience. There will be time to rest, walk and enjoy time in nature.

A few overnight places might be offered to regular retreatants who are unable to stay for the full duration.

A 30-40 minute pre-retreat individual session via Zoom/Whatsapp is recommended for newcomers or if you have not attended one of Sue’s residential retreats before. This provides greater containment and enhances and deepens the silent retreat experience for yourself and for the group. The fee for this will be the 30-40 minute medical aid rate and will be reduced if you are not on medical aid.

CPD accreditation for psychologists and other HPCSA (or equivalent) registered professionals is confirmed, with an annual admin fee of R375 for 2024. 10 General CEU's are available for this retreat.
